The IUPUI Office of Campus Facility Services (CFS) is seeking a Carpenter.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Build or repair doors, framework, floors, ceilings, shingle or BUR or EPDM or other roofing, or other fixtures in buildings. Install structures and fixtures such as roofing, walls, frames, ceilings, flooring dead bolts, keyed entry components, panic devices, closures, using carpenter’s hand and power tools. Construct, alter or repaint various woodwork. Install drywall, floor tile, ceiling tile, Formica covering for doors etc. Install various equipment. Construct various types of cabinets.
•Perform millwork, cabinetry and finish carpentry by setting up and operating power tools and machinery to size, plane, joint and mold lumber to desired dimensions. Cut tongues, grooves, bevels, beads or molding patterns. Cut and install custom moldings and trim.
•Use hand tools and wood screws, nails, dowel pins, or glue to make framework or props. Fabricate and install chalkboards, bulletin boards, blinds, and projection screens. Measure dimensions of area and determine plumb of walls or ceilings using plumb-line and level.
•Assembly, fit, and attach glass to framing; attach mounting strips and moldings to surface and apply mastic cement, putty, or screws to secure glass into position; apply glazing. Repair Venetian blinds and roll shades using basic hand tools. Reinstall to window if removed.
•Assist in bidding and design work with manager. Train apprentices and other personnel one-on-one as needed.
•Assist with snow removal activities as necessary. Must be available to work during inclement weather (i.e. snow and ice) when weather emergencies dictate that the CFS department is needed to take care of the campus.
•Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned, including general building maintenance duties. Drive University vehicles as needed. Work any shift as needed. 24-hour a day emergency response as needed.
